T’was the Night Before {Christmas} Deployment

Here’s hoping you all had a wonderful Christmas, and in the spirit of the season, a couple weeks back I prompted ChatGPT to generate a tech runoff of Clement C Moore’s “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. I hope you all enjoy!

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the cloud,
Not a server was stirring, no pings were allowed.
The firewalls were stacked by the routers with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The coders were nestled, snug in their chairs,
While visions of VR gear danced through the air.
With laptops on standby and snacks in their laps,
They had just debugged one last round of gaps.

When out on the server there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my desk to check what was the matter.
Away to the dashboard, I flew like a flash,
Logged in with my password (a security splash).

The glow of the screen on my tired, weary eyes
Gave the lustre of updates, to my great surprise.
When what to my wondering code should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight virtual reindeer.

With a savvy old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than fiber, his packets they came,
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name:

“Now GitHub! Now Docker! Now Jenkins and Curl!
On Python! On Java! On Ruby and Perl!
To the top of the stack! To the edge of the site!
Dash away! Push away! Upload in the night!”

As fast queries run through a high-speed request,
His code never faltered; his system was blessed.
So up to the mainframe his courses they flew,
With a sleigh full of gadgets—and St. Nicholas, too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the LAN,
The humming of servers, a well-crafted plan.
As I turned to the logs and was tracing the route,
Down the fiber St. Nicholas came with a shout.

He was dressed all in red, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all covered with debug soot.
A bundle of tech he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a startup just unloading his stack.

His eyes—they twinkled! His script—so merry!
His patches were clean, not one line was hairy.
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And his beard coded Christmas in ones and in O’s.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
Refactored the system; then turned with a smirk.
And laying a finger aside of his nose,
He pinged to the sleigh, and up it arose.

He sprang to his sled, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like a high-speed missile.
But I heard him exclaim, as he sped out of sight:
“Happy coding to all, and to all a good night!”

That’s a wrap! Merry Christmas to all!
