Fixing WordPress Stuck in Maintenance Mode

When WordPress runs updates, either via manual updates by a site admin, or via automatic scheduled updates, WordPress creates a .maintenance file which puts the site into maintenance mode, when the updates are complete, WordPress deletes this file and the site comes out of maintenance mode. When WordPress freezes during updates, WordPress fails to delete the .maintenance file. Fixing this situation is extremely simple, you need to just access the site files (most hosts offer a file manager for you to access and directly manage site files via) and delete the .maintenance file, then proceed and finish the WordPress updates. NOTE: The .maintenance file is located directly at the top of the WordPress file install along with wp-config and the .htaccess file. Because the file is hidden by default (.)maintenance you may have to specifically view hidden files on the system.

Once you have deleted the .maintenance file you should see your site is back to normal!
